I thought I would collect some sentences related to past events, and compare how these sentences work in my favourite languages. (English, Spanish, German, Hungarian, Esperanto) +added Russian

How would you say these in the language you are learning?

(This is just a fun little post. The Hungarian part is surely correct, but the Spanish/Esperanto/Russian parts might contain mistakes. Proceed with caution.)

Case 1: happened once in the past.

I visited my friend 2 weeks ago.

Visité a mi amigo hace 2 semanas.

Ich habe meinen Freund vor 2 Wochen besucht. / Ich besuchte meinen Freund vor 2 Wochen.

Meglátogattam a barátomat 2 hete. / Meglátogattam a barátomat 2 héttel ezelőtt.

Mi vizitis mian amikon antaŭ 2 semajnoj.

Я ездил в гости к своему другу две недели назад. (ездила for a female speaker)

Case 2a: started in the past, still ongoing

I have been learning Spanish for 2 years.

Hace dos años que estudio español. / Estudio español desde hace dos años.

Ich lerne Spanisch seit 2 Jahren.

2 éve tanulok spanyolul.

Mi lernas la hispanan jam 2 jarojn.

Я изучаю испанский язык два года.

Case 2b: started in the past, still ongoing, but with a start date

I have been learning Spanish since 2017.

Estudio español desde 2017. / He estado estudiando español desde 2017. / He estado aprendiendo español desde 2017.

Ich lerne Spanisch seit 2017. 

2017 óta tanulok spanyolul.

Mi lernas la hispanan ekde la jaro 2017.

Я изучаю испанский язык с 2017 года. (с две тысячи семнадцатого года)

Case 3: Longer time period in the past, but it is finished now

Tom lived in Japan for ten years.

Tom vivió en Japón por diez años.

Tom lebte zehn Jahre lang in Japan.

Tom tíz évig Japánban élt.

Tom vivis dum 10 jaroj en Japanio.

Том прожил в Японии десять лет.
