Which tree version do I have ?

Which tree version do I have ?

Using just Duolingo, there is no easy way to confirm which tree (course) you have.

Duo is constantly updating all its resources, and there are many versions of different trees for almost all courses released to different "groups/communities of users".

The only way I know of to get an idea of which Tree you may have is to use https://duome.eu/

And to do so by looking up your username.

i.e. like this: duome.eu/johnarnold/progress

as in: www.duome.eu/USERNAME/progress .

If you look to the right it should say something like:

Learning Chinese from English

Level 25 · 339319 XP
Crowns: 478/528
Skills: 88
Lessons: 284
Lexemes: 1932

or :

Learning German from English

Level 2 · 114 XP

Crowns: 17/607
Skills: 17/121+2
Lessons: 54/458+0/4
Lexemes: 302/2864+0/30
Strength: 97%

For this example, the important thing to note is the second figure in Skills,
and the second figure in the number of Lexemes.

In this more complex example, these are the figurese to note :

  • Skills: 121
  • Lexemes: 2864

With this information you can check with : Word Lists for ALL Duolingo Trees,
and see if your tree is the same as one currently that Educators probably have.

This post about Word Lists for ALL Duolingo Trees gives you access to more information about the trees, that may be of interest to educators and motivated learners.

It also includes ideas of other ways you could extend your learning through this information.

Do you have other ways to find out what tree you have?
Do you have other suggestions for other resources like this, that could benefit learning?

Number of words in a Duolingo course

How many words are in a Duolingo course?

First, what counts as a word?
In the incubator, some lexemes are stored as "forms of a word". For example, if you have "forms of comer", and that includes como, comes, come, that counts as one (not three).

I will just copy what Duome says at the small "?" sign:

"¡Hola!
If you ever wondered what are duolingo lexemes: these are lexeme_ids from our extended profiles and they are actually neither lexemes nor words since they include all word forms and they also include combined lexemes such as "bonne nuit" in the French course, and there are a few duplicates as well, but the total number is consistent across all users having completed the same tree version and apart from lessons and skills it's the only countable number in your profile that can tell you a little bit more about your tree progress."

Removed Spanish stories

(Updated) Links to all stories that were removed in the last update! (and previous updates)

They did another stories removal update yesterday, and removed the rest of the old stories without the Duo characters. Although most of these are in the official old stories database, it requires a lot of clicking and the post hasn't been updated in a long time, so I'll continue with my own.

I have to say I'm kinda disgusted that they removed these, I thought with them being more advanced and multi-part classics they would actually keep them while continuing to add new ones. Oh well... I should have known they would choose the worst option possible. Remove them all and not even with an additional content update :)

The stories removed in previous updates will be in the second post. Also if you don't want to use them in listen mode just delete '?mode=listen' from the address. If I've missed any, someone let me know, thanks.

Here you go: (REMINDER: you have to be on the stories page in spanish before you copy in the link for them to work).

Time related expressions

Time related expressions (En, Es, De, Hu, Eo, Ru)

I thought I would collect some sentences related to past events, and compare how these sentences work in my favourite languages. (English, Spanish, German, Hungarian, Esperanto) +added Russian

How would you say these in the language you are learning?

(This is just a fun little post. The Hungarian part is surely correct, but the Spanish/Esperanto/Russian parts might contain mistakes. Proceed with caution.)

Case 1: happened once in the past.

I visited my friend 2 weeks ago.

Visité a mi amigo hace 2 semanas.

Ich habe meinen Freund vor 2 Wochen besucht. / Ich besuchte meinen Freund vor 2 Wochen.

Meglátogattam a barátomat 2 hete. / Meglátogattam a barátomat 2 héttel ezelőtt.

Mi vizitis mian amikon antaŭ 2 semajnoj.

Я ездил в гости к своему другу две недели назад. (ездила for a female speaker)
