Which tree version do I have ?
Using just Duolingo, there is no easy way to confirm which tree (course) you have.
Duo is constantly updating all its resources, and there are many versions of different trees for almost all courses released to different "groups/communities of users".
The only way I know of to get an idea of which Tree you may have is to use https://duome.eu/
And to do so by looking up your username.
i.e. like this: duome.eu/johnarnold/progress
as in: www.duome.eu/USERNAME/progress .
If you look to the right it should say something like:
Learning Chinese from English
Level 25 · 339319 XP
Crowns: 478/528
Skills: 88
Lessons: 284
Lexemes: 1932
or :
Learning German from English
Level 2 · 114 XP
Crowns: 17/607
Skills: 17/121+2
Lessons: 54/458+0/4
Lexemes: 302/2864+0/30
Strength: 97%
For this example, the important thing to note is the second figure in Skills,
and the second figure in the number of Lexemes.
In this more complex example, these are the figurese to note :
- Skills: 121
- Lexemes: 2864
With this information you can check with : Word Lists for ALL Duolingo Trees,
and see if your tree is the same as one currently that Educators probably have.
This post about Word Lists for ALL Duolingo Trees gives you access to more information about the trees, that may be of interest to educators and motivated learners.
It also includes ideas of other ways you could extend your learning through this information.
Do you have other ways to find out what tree you have?
Do you have other suggestions for other resources like this, that could benefit learning?
[Note by jzsuzsi: after Duo deletes the forums, this Word list post will not be usable anymore, but try http://ardslot.com/duolingocrowns.html instead]

It is complicated, because you also have to know which tree is which...
For German from English:
Tree 13: 178 skills
Tree 11: 149 skills
Tree 10: 133 skills
Tree 3: 121 skills
see also this page http://ardslot.com/duolingocrowns.html

@jzsuzsi
Hi,
Which one is the mysterious German tree with 111 skills (12 checkpoints before redesign)?
Is it Cefr?
Travel?
For what target group?
What difficulty level?

That is a GREAT resource jzsuzsi !
Thanks for pointing that out.
Of course it is also becomming even more complicated ... proablaby. As there are probably trees which include additional gammar skills, and perhaps some that don't.
And they are not listed, the grammar skills, on the resources made available to Educators.
It is all very murky water.

What is the point of a proficiency score if Duolingo removes writing and typing exercises?
There is another issue with removed writing exercises (app, web, word banks, tying prompt) for Non-Latin languages (Russian, Greek,...).
See this DailyDuo Open thread comment by Primorye: https://forum.duolingo.com/comment/52091815?comment_id=52093545
It contains the link to the Russian forum thread: https://forum.duolingo.com/comment/52031680
According to staff's confirmation and moderators it is a new A/B test.

Hi daKanga,
better use the www.duome.eu/USERNAME page as this one correctly renders a sample page and instructions.
At the moment there is still a caching issue on the main page so you can't correctly read the total course skills (second number) for the active one (only completed skills / first number).
Hence a user must use the other www.duome.eu/USERNAME/progress page.

Thanks as always for this heads up Thomas !
I copied one of those from the duome help pages.
I will though use your advice, as I consider it is better than the made up suggestion of mine ;P

And also I can recommend checking out https://www.duolingo.com/duocon
And especially : state of duolingo : Dr. Luis von Ahn : CEO & co-founder of Duolingo ,
Where it was said:
Time stamp 3:50 :
The forth big thing we are working on is trying to become the proficiency standard for how much people know a language. ...
So we are working on adding a proficiency score to the app.
So that anybody can talk about their proficiency in the language.

Thanks for your tips. You are very helpful, as usual!
Unfortunately my duome page has been more or less broken for months.
Anyway. I definitely would appreciate an easier way to keep track on my tree versions. A simple suggestion was given in this comment, in a post about some new updates for the German tree: https://forum.duolingo.com/comment/52447839?comment_id=52590065

As an educator, it is important for me to have access to additional resources, such as word lists. And to also know that all my students have access to the same course material that I am designing my class plan on.

For independent and self motivated learners, knowing this can also be useful.
It can help them design resources and activities that can enhance their learning.
Or enable them to match what they may be learning from another source (such as an independent class, outside of Duolingo), and be able to select Duolingo skills that complement the learning they are doing elsewhere.

When Duolingo is considering updating something, it builds something, then it tests the proposed change on a ranomly selected groups of users. And it waits to see how various statistics register, to see if the change is worth it.
To pass, the criterea on the test group needs to perform better than the existing group, on what ever measure they have decided on before starting the test.
Duolingo runs 100's of tests like this constantly.
Thus different users will have access to different versions of Duolingo tree (course).
This is proably more relevant to educators, who are managing a class of users, as it makes it difficult if all the learners in your class have been allocated different versions of tree (course).

daKanga, as you say, "the criterea on the test group needs to perform better than the existing group" .
And of course it will!
I mean, how easy !! is it to whip through a lesson with wordbank, especially in Greek, with not only all the words spelt correctly, the tonoses all in the correct place and all the words that you need placed on the plater before you. Too easy!!
I am so, so grateful that I am in the other group. I would completely flip if I wasn't. Why? Because I really want to learn the language.

Speaking from my personal experience, this is not a certainty in any regard.
Though of course, this is only IMO, and in my experience.
I do not have exerience beyond a very small data set.
Not a good way to make a sweeping statement.

Do not lose hope, whatever you do my friend.
And here you are among people that so many of us are passionate about the manifesto that also, I also hold belief and continue to see they hold to truth to.
Such as here: https://www.duolingo.com/info
Yes - it is wiggly path.
The ways, they are complex.
I still hold faith, and also have seen through also these years, for Duo to show in reality, that this is their drive. And that there is SOOOOO much more still to come.
It is worth our faith, from all I have experienced.
And in a way, it is also like song line. And we also are part of bringing to our emerging future these great dreams. (edited - it is in a way in the west such from Peter Pan, to believe in fairies - clap your hands. You matter, we as a small community matters, and we as a global community, we matter. And a key part of that is also the respect and belief and trust we hold between us. Each of us. )
For to do this - it does require a community.

It may be that this post is not relevant to you.
However it would be appreciated if you would choose to not down vote it. As it is relevant to others of us.
This is a reference post, that I can use to refer people to, who would like to know this.
This can also be of use, for example for family members, who are wanting to study together.
And this can be perplexing for them when they find their courses are different.
As well of course for educators, for the benefit of their class.
Wishing you all the best with your language learning.
